Docklands accommodation in Melbourne’s
During the 1880s, Melbourne’s Victoria Docks on the Yarra River was the principal port for the region. But by the 1970s, changes in the shipping industry had left the docks largely abandoned and run down. The river-front location near the Central Business District (CBD) had a lot going for it, and in the early 1990s, the Victorian Parliament came up with a redevelopment plan.
